Comprehensive Sustainable Development Service

The purpose of the comprehensive development service:

Change the thought process and lives of those served to grant them a “better life”.

Vision 2023-2033

Implementing “change” for people served in the neediest areas in 100 small villages, in order to grant them a decent life in terms of spiritual fulfillment, an appropriate amount of education, health, and economic sufficiency, at an agreed-upon standard level.

Mission

Saint Joseph the Carpenter Service works with the local church in the neediest areas to provide comprehensive and sustainable development services for every person in the area and in the various aspects of their lives to achieve its vision within a specific period and also to train and empower local servants to carry out same services thereafter.

Objectives

Communicating Jesus Christ message to every person as a savior for their lives

Building local capacities through training, qualifying and empowering local volunteers/ community servants to become the cornerstone guaranteeing the sustainability of the developed villages.

The long term objectives are divided into three stages

The first phase: to last for two years from 2023-2024 and aim to serve 20 regions.

The second phase: for three years, from 2025 - 2027, and aims to serve 30 other regions.

The Third phase: for five years until the beginning of 2033. This phase aims to serve 50 new regions.

For each of the aforementioned stages, strategic goals and objectives are studied as follows:

  • Define the challenges and opportunities
  • Clarify the strengths to strengthen them and the weaknesses to avoid them.

Criteria for selecting local volunteers/ servants:

  1. Local volunteer/servant should be a Christian Orthodox, regularly participating in Masses and practicing Communion and confession.
  2. Fully convinced with the principles of the development concept.
  3. Has the ability to influence others.
  4. Preferably, if possible, not fully committed with other services and of appropriate age.
  5. Their abilities and commitment are tested and evaluated by assigning them simple tasks in the first stage of the service.
  6. A “planning” conference is held with the local priest and volunteers meeting the previous criteria and passed the tests successfully. They then receive a simplified training course on sustainable development and also to create an atmosphere of familiarity and communication between St. Joseph the Carpenter servants of and the local servants.
  7. Local volunteers/ servants are evaluated during the period of their service to elect leaders among them in the pillars. Elected leaders are empowered to ensure the sustainability of the service. They would be considered thereafter as the basis for establishing central service committees at the diocesan level.
